THE LEAD UP TO THE BATTLE
Nobody saw the fractured ruins of the Wizarding World coming. In 1970, the First Wizarding War started to become the norm. Words like "Voldemort" and "You-Know-Who" floated around in hushed whispers. People became afraid. Albus Dumbledore reared up a group of wizards and witches to fight Voldemort's growing powers -- the Order of the Phoenix was born. He became so dark and twisted, so powerful -- even more powerful and dark than Gellert Grindelwald years and years before.
The fight between the Death Eaters and the Order of the Phoenix started to become more violent, and much more often. Hogwarts, somehow, was safe -- maybe, as the whispers grew, Voldemort really was afraid of Dumbledore. Maybe, just maybe, the Order of the Phoenix would win...
Battles grew more and more. Death tolls and casualties didn't just end up in the Magical World -- muggles were becoming the targets, and the Ministry tried in vain to fix it. 1970 turned into 1971, and then on and on. As the years ticked passed, lives were lost. It didn't seem to bother anyone.
And then, things seemed to change. In 1979, with the first births of the class of 1991, Voldemort's arm started to back off. He had all but disappeared into the shadows, and by the time the legendary Harry Potter was born, Voldemort was gone. The Daily Prophet claimed that Voldemort was afraid of Dumbledore and his own army, but that was just a hoax. Nobody really believed that. Most of all, everyone was content to not having to whisper Voldemort's name in the darkness.
BACK WITH A VENGEANCE For almost a decade, Voldemort's hold on the Wizarding and Muggle worlds were almost non-existant. He had completely disappeared, and while his name was still something that sent shivers down people's spines in the mid-1980's, it wasn't as bad as during the First Wizarding War. Albus Dumbledore, though, knew something was off. The Order of the Phoenix became a small, inclusive group who worked hard and dedicated themselves to protecting the world from dark wizards like Voldemort.
It came as a complete surprise.
Not a single person saw Voldemort's plan. He had disappeared to build an island in the middle of the sea, and had set up years of controlling his Death Eaters in ways that made his plan perfect. As Dumbledore's words of easiness settled the Wizarding World, Voldemort was making a comeback. It was one town at a time -- Dufftown, then wizarding Dublin, and small little towns along the way. Eventually, he had made it know that Voldemort was back, but he wasn't going to stop now.
In December 1989, Voldemort was back in Scotland. A ragtag team of Death Eaters -- purebloods, halfbloods, magical creatures and Dementors alike -- followed his lead and stormed Hogwarts during the Christmas Holidays. Since most of the students were gone, the teachers weren't ready for the onslaught of what was to come. Albus Dumbledore fled before he could save anyone; after all, he knew his professors would protect the school. Professors who didn't conform to the new way of establishment were killed, and new Death Eater professors were set in their place.
But the scariest thing of all was the fact that students were shuffled quietly out of the school, and they weren't heard from again. Students started to trickle back into Hogwarts from their Christmas holidays -- some families heard about the unrest, but a good majority weren't so lucky. Muggleborn students were disappearing rapidly to the new school in the sea -- The Facility. Classes changed. Hogwarts was no longer the safe haven it once was.
In February of 1990, Voldemort's ambition pushed further, on the outstretches of the United Kingdom. He had attacked and destroyed Beauxbatons, the wizarding school in France. While he assumed he destroyed it -- and everyone worth of importance -- the school was quick to rebuild itself into an underground fortress that would fight to bring freedom to the British students. Durmstrang became secured in the leaning of Voldemort, taking warm values in his idealism. Ilvermorny tried to stay active in the fight, but remained a neutral spot, for now.
NOW AND IN THE FUTURE Now, it is the start of the 1990-1991 School year all around the world, and students are just starting to adjust to their mostly new surroundings. Students still trickle into the Facility, and the summer has been avid with grabbing new Muggleborn first years, in an attempt to hope that they don't go missing.
The First Wizarding War never ended. It's only just begun.
