Muggleborns BACKGROUND INFORMATION With the obvious take over of Voldemort, muggleborns in THE UNITED KINGDOM are not what you think they are. Not any more. No longer able to go to Hogwarts because of the breeding ground that Voldemort is forcing the teachers to teach, Muggleborn students have several options that they can take to in their applications. Enrolling in another magical school, hiding out with the Order of the Phoenix or letting Voldemort find them are the three main options you can take, although we're willing to accept other creative ways, too. SCHOOL TRANSFERS Most students above first year (those who didn't start Hogwarts in the 1990-1991 school year), would've been able to leave the country with enough time to get enrollment into another school. There are three other schools in play: Ilvermorny in the United States, Beauxbatons in France, and Durmstrang in Scandinavia. All three of the schools work closely with parents and/or guardians to protect the new charges, and they are typically sorted into their new houses upon arrival in the school year. If you decide to go this route, please make sure you know that new muggleborn children born in the United Kingdom can be found by a representative of the schools, and can try and get the child out of the country before Voldemort's men get to them. HIDING WITH THE ORDER Another option that muggleborn students are being hidden by the Order of the Phoenix. Once Voldemort took over, the Order swooped in and saved as many muggleborn Hogwarts students as possible, and kept them safe in several secret houses. Even now, the Order has members working underneath the Minister of Magic and are actively attempting to get to muggleborn students first. Students in the care of the Order are personally taught and tutored by whoever is around, often all years being taught together. The majority of students go on to becoming Order of the Phoenix members themselves, or quieter, subtler members of society, hoping to restore peace to the United Kingdom. Many students in their seventh years are allowed to travel to the French Ministry of Magic -- on part of a deal with the French Order of the Phoenix -- and are able to take their NEWTs, which gives them the ability to work in foreign Ministries and other governmental jobs. WILLING CAPTURE BY VOLDEMORT The final option for muggleborn characters is willing capture by Voldemort and the British Ministry of Magic. The Ministry's new Minister -- under the control and obedience of Voldemort -- is highly aware of new Muggleborn magics, and those who are about to enter their first year at Hogwarts. If they are not quick enough to get smuggled out of the country or be led away by the Order, they mostly end up in this category. Eleven-to-Twelve year olds are taken by death eaters -- literally forced away from their parents/guardians (who are actually obliviated afterwards) and are taken to the dark, dreary place know as The Facility.
The Facility is basically every eleven year old's nightmare. Not many know about it, or its location, but once a muggleborn student is there, they're only allowed to leave once they've reached eighteen years old. Students at the facility are given wands that are not quite acceptable to the standards of Ollivander, and often have to relinquish these wands pre-graduation. At the age of fifteen, during the start of their fifth year, students are carved into by the head of the school, an 'M' on their forearm signifying their status in the world. This is a brand they will carry for life. Students at the Facility tend to live here all year, even during summers. Their lessons are less than perfect, with old, almost obsolete text books, and spells that are good as neutral things, rather than defensive and transfiguration. Students here are literally trained into submission and are required to show their submission throughout their lives, just by blood status.

Muggleborn FAQ Does this mean I cannot play a muggleborn? Absolutely not! We welcome muggleborn characters more than anything, and we've wanted to create a new spin on the beloved Harry Potter verse that we thought people would enjoy. Personally, we think that muggleborn characters are the most interesting part of this dynamic, and able to have much more of a time at whatever school you decide to go to! Can my muggleborn go to Durmstrang? While Durmstrang is probably least likely to allow muggleborns to travel its halls, both from Britain and from the Slavic-countries around it that it services, it's sure to let in muggleborns that can, ahem, afford the price. If you're planning on going this route, be cautious; if word gets out about the status of your character, you might just end up in the Facility. Do I have to follow one of these routes? Nope! If you have another original idea that you want to play out, that's fine, too, just make sure it sounds believable and that you'll get connections and threads with it. You can also retcon your character at any point, as long as you make it seem and feel authentic. My character was already in school. What happens now? One of the three suggestions above might be the best choice. If your character is still old enough to know what life was like pre-Voldemort takeover of Hogwarts, feel free to add that into your application, and go about it just like before. Please note that if you try to keep your character in Hogwarts, though, it might not be quite as easy. What happens if my character doesn't listen to the rules? I guess we'll find out when that happens, hm? Sometimes it's as easy as an imperious curse, other times, it might be a complete session of control and dismiss. It really depends on how bad and serious your character decides to rebel. Can my adult fight for muggleborns? ABSOLUTELY! There is nothing saying that there can't be muggleborns (and other blood statuses) fighting for the freedom of the children from the Facility, and from Voldemort's doctrine. Likewise, the Order of the Phoenix is a big part of the site, and there's even an entire school based around resisting Voldemort's rules and control, going as far as they can to teach the children hard Defense Against the Dark Arts spells and espionage to protect them.
