HOGWARTS CLASSES
Since the arrival of Voldemort, the Death Eaters have taken over teaching at Hogwarts, School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Most of the normal classes have continued on their due course in the upcoming year of 1990-1991, but some classes have changed drastically. Core classes are mandatory, and once a student has chosen electives, they are mandatory for a year. Most electives are continued throughout the time of fifth year, after OWLs, or until graduation upon completion of the NEWTs.
CORE CLASSES
There are six core classes that every student is required to take from their first year, to their fifth year, without exception. Core classes are considered the basics of a student's time at Hogwarts, and often times, several of these classes are what a student focuses in after OWLs when they prepare themselves for their NEWTs. There is one single core class that does not pass or fail via OWLs, but on an individual basis, and is to be completed for seven years.
CHARMSCharms is the study of basic wandmovements that will aid a student in the future. Taught in almost conjunction to Dark Arts, charms is a vital lesson in the basics of "light" magic. While using charms outside of class and against authority figures will cast a hard issue with a student, it is encouraged that students use the darker charms to aid themselves in their growth of magical handling.
DARK ARTSReplacing the ever famous
Defense Against the Dark Arts, this class focuses on the use, practicality and, of course, hands on movements towards the dark arts. This is both a theoretical and practical lesson that spans a total of two hours every other day, opposed to the hour every day of other classes. Dark Arts lessons sometimes include an old classmate who was brought up from the Facility as practice, although most of the time, small animals or other students in the class are used as examples.
DEATH EATER PHYSICAL REGIMENTSDEPR, as it's shortened to, is a physical education-based class for the students of Hogwarts, a new class implemented this upcoming year. This class trains students to be at peak physical and air-worthy level, creating a training regiment for students of different athletic skill sets. At the end of every year, for two months, students take an examination and move about for the upcoming year, should they pass. If they don't, a summer worth of training will be initiated. Physical activities, such as swimming, running and stair climbing happen on Mondays and Tuesdays for the first through fourth years, and Wednesdays and Thursdays for fifth through seventh. The invert of the schedules (Weds/Thurs for 1-4 and Mon/Tues for 5-7) is for broom flying and altitude training. Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays are generally a rest of this class period for most students.
HERBOLOGYHerbology focuses on the usage and growth of various plants from England and the United Kingdom, as well as foreign plants. It deals with the use of dark plants and poisons that can be use naturally against others. Not only this, but students in the younger years often plant and maintain the greenhouses, and the older years often help cultivate and pick and store ingredients from this class for their potion creating.
POTIONSWhile in the passed, this class focused on both light and dark potions, since Voldemort's control of it, the class has changed almost dramatically. Students do not brew potions that heal, although they learn about them on a more theoretical level, and they mostly brew dark or dangerous potions. In addition, many fifth, sixth and seventh year potions are labeled in beakers and sent to the Facility for "testing" to see how the muggleborns react -- and the students get a pass / fail grade based on that.
TRANSFIGURATIONTransfiguration is an advanced class that focuses on changing an object into another – whether it is based on human transfiguration (animagus) or object transfiguration. Because Hogwarts is focused on giving its pureblooded and halfblooded students the best experience it can, this class is mostly theoretical with minor and basic transfiguration skills. Some students upon completion of high level OWLs could be invited to learn animagus studies during their sixth and seventh years.
ELECTIVES
After the completion of second year, students are able to choose up to three electives from the following to take up until their OWLs. Classes that are passed during OWLs may be continued towards NEWTs study. Electives, while stressful, may be dropped with permission from the head of house, and under careful consideration; just because you do not "like" the class is not an acceptable excuse. Certain electives, such as Alchemy, are only offered to those who have completed an "E" or "O" in Potions and Herbology OWLs.
ALCHEMYAlchemy is an advanced focus of potions, although it’s focused in ancient runes, metal transfiguration and potion skills. Alchemy is only offered to
SIXTH AND SEVENTH YEARS who have successfully gained an "E" or "O" in their potions AND herbology OWLs. This class is often taken in tandem with potions.
ANCIENT RUNESAncient Runes is a study of an archaic writing system that has magic embedded inside runes, or small portable stones. These runes are extremely powerful, and during this class, students learn how to make, maintain and control these runes. More advanced students, those who continue this elective between their fifth and seventh years, are also taught how to create runes without the stones.
MUGGLEBORN AND BEAST ENSLAVEMENTThis is a newly added elective geared towards future Baby Death Eaters, and current Baby Death Eaters. This class teaches students how to capture both muggleborns and unruly and unwanted beasts of the magical world. This class also teaches the basics on what to look for with muggleborns, and how to remind them of their place in society.
MODIFIED HISTORY OF MAGICIn this version of History of Magic, budding students learn about things like the rise of Voldemort, Grindlewald and the pure forms of pureblood lineage. No longer does this class offer things like muggle history or the Goblin Wars. Because Voldemort doesn’t believe that this class is worthy as a "core" class, it was moved to an elective once the school year was out.
DROPPED CLASSES
The following classes have been completely removed from Hogwarts' class schedule, and replaced by something new. The classes with the asterisk (*) are available to be played by registered students who are seers and/or clairvoyants. These classes are held in a one on one tutor session, generally supervised by an established Death Eater to ensure the student is learning the "proper" skills.
ARITHMANCY*This class, for the most part, has been dropped because of the Death Eater ideals of it being a useless class. Arithmancy is the focus and study of numbers and mathematics towards magic, and often the use of skilled seers and diviners. When a Death Eater or other Professor sees this skill being developed in a budding student, this class is offered one on one to hone the skill.
ASTRONOMYThis class is the study of the stars, planets and moons, and the positions between each in the universe. This class used to be taught during the nighttime hours, focusing on the growth and expansion of the world. Once the end of the 1989-1990 school year was up, this class was completely cut from the curriculum of Hogwarts.
CARE OF MAGICAL CREATURESAlongside Muggle Studies, as soon as Voldemort took over, this class was almost instantly taken away. While it was a pretty popular class before, most of the death eaters who took over Hogwarts found it useless and unnerving, and cut the class. They even got rid of people like Hagrid who ran and supported this class, stating that they were ‘brainwashing’ the children who thought magical creatures were equal to wizards and witches.
DIVINATION*Divination is the study of reading tea leaves, crystal balls and the use of learning how to tell the future. For the most part, since the Death Eaters have appeared in the school, they have taken over this class. Like Arithmancy, this class is offered to a budding seer student, which is one on one. Often taken in tandem with arithmancy, but that is not always the case.
MUGGLE STUDIESSurprisingly, this was the only class cut as soon as Voldemort took over Hogwarts. Alongside the disappearance of every muggleborn student in Hogwarts when they were sectioned off, this class was deemed absolutely useless and each and every student who took this class was automatically enrolled in Muggleborn / Beast Enslavement. Voldemort will not have students learning these filthy ways.
NEW SCHOOL RULES
All students at Hogwarts are automatically enrolled into Death Eater Physical Regiment. This class is sorted into years – first through fourth, and fifth through seventh, and then A, B and C classifications of health and fitness. Students are required to take a pass/fail test at the end of the year, and if failed, a student must complete an intense summer course.
Students that have known or show the signs of a seer ability are more likely to be enrolled on divination and arithmancy. Death Eaters are more likely to harness these powers for their own, rather than allow the Order to utilize it.
The new version of History of Magic focuses only on pure and halfblood leaders and important names, and does not deal with magical creatures, the Goblin wars, or muggleborn issues.
